Hi David Is this a PTX1 talking book player? If so, the only way you can get it fixed is to send it back to RNIB who send it to Plextalk. It has been programmed into the PTX1 to remind people to get their talking book readers serviced every 3 years. This is fine for rented machines, but annoying if you have bought it. I bought one last year and the message came on the first time I powered it up. I sent it back and it was reset for 3 years later (I reset the time to see what would happen). If this is not a PTX1, ignore my message. Pele West
Hi, thank you very much for this, very intresting. I never new they do that. Intresting, I am not sure why service would be needed. I mean I can understand if the battery needs replacement but if the unit work properly why would that be required for a speech only product unless if they want to service the cd drive components. Evening, I have just bought my plextalk, and while at the company table, I spoke to Colene and asked her about the question of the service type message. She told me she has had three machines and has never come up against this situation. I wish to be clear, that is not to say the user is not telling the truth, I am only saying what Colene told me. She asked me if the person had taken the battery out of the machine, and kept it off for 5 minutes or longer??? I stated to Colene, that I was not sure, but if you have not taken the battery out, Colene suggests that you remove the battery, and leave it off for the required 5 minutes, to see what affect if any this has.
