deleting files and plextalk terms
I have just gotten this plextalk pocket. It is quite different from the booksense that my husband won. The thing that attracted me is that it is the first device that I was told you could actually edit on. But I notice that file structure and terminology seem to be different. One thing I notice is that in the delete settings, I go to delete a file, and it says I cannot delete this file. It is a file that I recorded on it with the internal microphone. What is the reason I cannot delete it? What am I doing wrong? Pam.
Pam did you make a voice memo? or a regular recording? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pamela Dominguez" <geodom@optonline.net> To: <plextalk@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Sunday, January 27, 2013 2:38 PM Subject: [Plextalk] deleting files and plextalk terms I have just gotten this plextalk pocket. They are regular voice recordings. A couple of times, when I pressed the record button, it said voice memo, for some reason, but most of the time, it didn't. Hello, Pamela, I will try to clarify this for you. If you made a basic recording then you created a Daisy title which consists of an MP3 file along with several other files used for Daisy navigation. Therefore, to delete a Daisy title you need to find the item that says, delete selected title. The item you found, delete a file, is for deleting a straight MP3 file. The only way such a file can get onto your SD card is for you to transfer it there from a computer or similar device. You also mentioned in reply to another person that you did here, voice memo once or more times when you were making a recording. If you hold down the record key, and keep holding it down, you can record a short memo to yourself. The memo stops recording when you let up on the recored key. These are stored internally on the Plextalk. They are played back by pressing the Title key until you hear voice memos. They are deleted through the voice memo submenu. Pam, In addition to what Jeff has said, I would point out that, although you can do basic editing on the unit itself, in my opinion, you can edit a DAISY title much more efficiently using the Plextalk Recording Software. If you've not got this software, you should be able to download it from the Plextalk website. That's very strange about the voice memo thing, because they seem like regular files, even though the speech said voice memo. I didn't hold the button down to make the recording and let it up when I finish. Okay, so I am to delete the title, not the file. Thanks. Also, the recordings don't seem to be in any voice memo thing. Thanks for clarifying about the delete title. Pam, The best way to learn to use the PlexTalk and to get the distinctions between the various facilities and their settings, after having read the manual, is probably to reread the relevant portions of the manual with trying things out. A voice memo is of lower quality than a recording. Pam,
The best way to learn to use the PlexTalk and to get the distinctions between the various facilities and their settings, after having read the manual, is probably to reread the relevant portions of the manual with trying things out. A voice memo is of lower quality than a recording. (there is a word doc in the manuals folder, or somewhere, that has the complete manual. there are also word docs dealing with specific facilities of the plexTALK. I'm quite new to it myself.

That's very strange about the voice memo thing, because they seem like regular files, even though the speech said voice memo. I didn't hold the
button down to make the recording and let it up when I finish. Okay, so I
am to delete the title, not the file. Thanks. Also, the recordings don't
seem to be in any voice memo thing. Thanks for clarifying about the delete title. Hope you understand this combo message, since both things seem to be all mixed up together. Pam.

Hello, Pamela,
I will try to clarify this for you.

Look on the other CD of the two. there is a manuals folder of Word docs there, in several languages of which English is one. Also these docs are fuller versions than the spoken manual. (You read these Word docs on your ordinary computer, either from the CD or after copying the files to it.)

It's hard going through that manual with that awful voice in there, and then trying to do what it says. Oh, and it doesn't matter whether you have the male or female voice on; I've tried both. I thought the disk had a manual in html, so that I could tab through it and enter on specific things, but it doesn't. I'm trying to get one of the cd players I have that will play daisy working, but that's a whole nother kettle of fish. Everything in my place had to be packed away for a while, so it's hard to find anything. Pam.

Pam,
The best way to learn to use the PlexTalk and to get the distinctions between the various facilities and their settings, after having read the manual, is probably to reread the relevant portions of the manual with trying things out.

I didn't hold the button down to make the recording and let it up when I finish. Okay, so I am to delete the title, not the file. Thanks. Also, the recordings don't seem to be in any voice memo thing. Thanks for clarifying about the delete title. Hope you understand this combo message, since both things seem to be all mixed up together. Pam.

Hello, Pamela,
I will try to clarify this for you.

Bob, when will there be a new firmware version? and do you have any details about it?
No estimated date on new firmware or features. My best guess is later in Q1, but have no confirmation of that.

Then (to use a different TTS voice) you may find it easier to work with either the word version or the Text version of the manual. you could copy them from your CD onto your computer. Working with the Plextalk is somewhat like working with a mobile's keyboard. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Pamela Dominguez" <geodom@optonline.net> To: "Plextalk User Discussion List" <plextalk@lists.hodgsonfamily.org> Sent: Tuesday, January 29, 2013 9:39 PM Subject: Re: [Plextalk] deleting files and plextalk terms
