Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait.
Hi all, is there any advantage, or disadvantage to changing to the Canadian firm ware? Will my NLS key still work? Will it be able to read .BRF files? This is my one pet peeve with the Plex Talk, the fact that the Book Port, wich is the same hardware can do this, but the US version of the plex Talk can not. I don't think there is any functional change in Canadian or US firmware. I suggested because this is the most simple way to reinstall the US firmware. NLS key will still work after upgrade since all data is backed up to the SD-card as part of the upgrade process. Just to expand on Marc's explanation, the firmware options for units sold in the US are US English or Canadian French. Installing either does not change settings or user data or authorization keys. The Plextalk Pocket does not support BRF. I believe it was an exclusivity requirement for the bookport. Regarding the "please wait" message. The Pocket will not charge when plugged into the USB and is also turned on. This puts it into the USB on the go mode and it goes into storage device mode. Removing the cable will cause the unit to restart into normal operation mode with a "Restarting, please wait". This is normal operation. If the unit gives continual tones or "please wait" on boot/power on, remove the SD card. If the unit announces "no SD card", it has booted and the most likely cause is a corrupted SD card. If it continues to cycle, remove the battery for 15-20 seconds and then power on. Any temporary glitch should clear and normal operation resume. No bob, I have a USB Charger i use to charge the plextalk pocket, I do not connect it to my computer. So when i plug my plextalk pocket into the regular wall outlet I use a usb wall charger, which allows me to use the plextalk pocket when connected to the wall outlet. I get the please wait message then a chime then please wait then a chime many times before i hear the boot sound. So I do know what i have heard.
Anytime you connect via the USB, whether to the computer or to a USB 5VDC source, and the unit is turned on, it will restart and go into the USB on-the-go mode. If you are charging via a USB wall charger, vehicle charger or trying to charge off a PC, the unit must be turned off to charge. -----Original Message----- From: Plextalk [mailto:plextalk-bounces@lists.hodgsonfamily.org] On Behalf Of Life My Way Sent: Monday, May 18, 2015 12:00 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait. Ok, bob this though is not true because when i am using my plextalk pocket on usb with the usb wall charger it does charge. and will work while i am using it, I was told a person could use the plextalk pocket and charge it at the same time when plugging into a wall outlet.
As far as I know, you can still do that if you are using the regular charger. I have had this happen with both the USB wall charger i have and the regular wall adapter, so still not sure why it does it i had it happen again.
Ok, i just had the same thing happen with theregular wall charger i get the please wait then like a bell sound, then quiet then please wait this kept on going on for at least 5 minutes or more before it gave the boot sound, Please help this is getting a bit if not really anoying. I am wondering if it is the firmware or something, I sure wish you could downgrade to the 5.x series of firmware or that plextalk would get this fixed. Does anyone know if this happens with the lino pocket?
What happened to the charger that came with it? That's not a USB charger. I have tried removing the battery for the amount of time you have said but that did not help either when plugging the plextalk pocket back into the wall outlet i get that please wait, and the chime. So then i wait and eventually it brings up the boot sound, so, No it is not a krupt sd card since i have a brand new card in my plextalk pocket.
Its Newness is no guarantee that a card is correctly formatted . Try a different SD card. -----Original Message----- From: Life My Way Sent: Monday, May 18, 2015 8:04 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait. Also, it has been my understanding that a Plextalk Pocket firmware upgrade could not be completed without the power input being connected to AC, i.e., charged in the expected way. I've a Bookport-owning friend, who needed to visit a Plextalk Pocket owner so that he could upgrade its firmware with a correct battery charger (as he'd lost his own). USB-to -ac socket does not qualify as that, AFAIK. If you can, get hold of another power supply such as the sort used to charge wireless headphones, that connects suitably and is suitably rated. The problem you are having could be that the Plextalk does not know whether it is being connected to another USB device or if is to charge. -----Original Message----- From: Flor Lynch Sent: Monday, May 18, 2015 8:12 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait. I also have the regular wall charger, I use the usb wall carger because at places I plug it in is smaller and the regular wall ac adapter will not fit.
Then a smaller wall plug whose lead will fit correctly to the AC connection socket of the PlexTalk would do. Such a one is the wireless headphones charger that I had to use for a while with it. -----Original Message----- From: Life My Way Sent: Monday, May 18, 2015 10:16 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait. If you have a power supply's jack at one end that fits the Plextalk Pocket's electrical socket, that will do. If you don't, then either consult with your local Plextalk dealer or check out a convenient electrical store (bvringing your plextalk along, to show the assistant there, for size). Could you not get or find a multi-adapter, that will take your Plextalk charger's plug, and it connecting to the wall socket at the other end? It's a logistical problem, probably, not really a Plextalk one. -----Original Message----- From: Life My Way Sent: Monday, May 18, 2015 11:34 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait. and where do you find such a device? _______________________________________________ Plextalk mailing list Plextalk@lists.hodgsonfamily.org https://lists.hodgsonfamily.org/listinfo/plextalk
I believe that USB charging sources come in different wattages. Its not just the voltage but the current requirement that can effect operation. In particular a very small USB AC charging device like yours is likely to be underpowered. Another reset that is worth trying is to set the keyboard lock in the up position (locked) then hold the power butten down until the device reboots. Ok, is this while the plextalk pocket is turned on or is turned off?
There may be a reason why they give you a separate jack for charging that's not a USB. If you have the regular charger, see if you don't get the problem with that. pam. -----Original Message----- From: Life My Way Sent: Monday, May 18, 2015 3:04 PM To: Plextalk User Discussion List Subject: Re: [Plextalk] plextalk pocket and please wait. As far as I know, I always thought that it could read them. I never tried them, but I thought it had samples in there.
