Hi Peter, This is most likely due to a defective CD-ROM drive. Unfortunately, this model is no longer available. You can dismount the CD-drive, open it and try to clean the reading lens, but no guarantee this will work. When any kind of disc is inserted, it plays the tune for a while, then says improper or damaged disc, and then ejects the disc.
