vm on console in esxi

Can I use a virtual machine at the console on a esxi 5.0 host? I was thinking what I could do is put a command to start the vm in a startup script so that when I powered up the host, it would come up with a virtual machine running on the console. I already know that I can get speech via a USB headset connected to the host.

Still Worth It?

Hi all, I've been following Brians topic with some interest as it seems like most of you are doing what I aspire to be; I contribute to things on here whenever I think I have something informative to say, but I'm not really anything more than a hobbyist sysadmin at the moment. My plan for the past few years has been to graduate, start getting certs and eventually to end up in an environment where I would be doing everything. In my explorations I haven't really run into any major access issues other than the standard things like audio services not being started, but I've never really done anything regarding vmware other than using some of their consumer offerings. So, I'm wondering if everyone still thinks its worth trying to get a job as a sysadmin? I don't give up on things easily (I've gone further than anyone else I know when it comes to hardware) and I do like a challenge, but I've noticed a few times that more experienced people on this list have pretty much said that our lucks out in this area. Your thoughts would be great; it seems a bit pointless studying for something that people who do it already are saying presents too many access issues. Cheers, Ben.

AVG for Linux, how to remaster?

Dear users and developers, Here are my idea how to create functional remastered Linux distribution to make it work with AVG antivirus solution. It will be PCLINUX OS 2009.1 ZEN Mini Gnome with Orca included and command line oriented AVG. New PC Linux is using Pulseaudio and i do not like it because of it. I will try to add newest kernel to The old 2009.1 release, but it will may be cause issues. But new kernel is including many network device drivers, but new kernels are having issues with 3D instructions so some ATI graphics carts are not supported. How to work? Download remastered PCLINUX OS image with Orca and with bug, which will not allow You to install it by using this direct link. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/15279728/pclinuxos2009.iso Run this live CD. Included remastering script is allowing You to remaster this distro even from running live mode, by specifiing The partition to some harddrive or USB stick, this is The onlyone Linux distribution, which can enable users to remaster it from running live CD system. Try to do it with Ubuntu or Debian Squeeze, You will not have A chance to make successfull remaster. Download The .rpm file with AVG for Linux by using this link. http://aa-download.avg.com/filedir/inst/avg2012flx-r1786-a4748.i386.rpm Install The release from live CD by using rpm command. Try to install The .rpm image Try to run it and if You will not get error messages, make The remaster of this distribution for Yourself. Hello, I need recommendations for portable apps, apps that run from thumb drives, for antimalware work. I've got a Win7 Home Premium 64 bit box that I'm probably going to be paying a visit to either tomorrow or next weekend that has got something on it that I'm not sure what. I've heard various things it started out as a worm, then a virus called win32.blaster, then a rootkit/backdoor, bottomline I'm getting just guesswork from it's owner until I see it, I'm also concerned about two toolbars delio toolbar and something called vtoolbar updater 10.2 which added in a services entry, anyone know of either of these? I don't trust any AV running on the box, particularly Norton 360, and I don't think that's all there is. Does anyone utilize any good general rootkit/worm/Antivirus that goes from a thumb drive? I'm going to be running this from a drive using NVDA also on the same drive. Thanks. Dave.

DHCP not working using ICS

Hi all, I've been banging my metaphorical head against my metaphorical desk for a while about this one so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas. The situation: 3G modem connected to a computer, connection needs to be shared to its lan connection for some other clients. Should just be a straight forward ICS setup - I've done it before; its not that hard. ICS gets enabled and the lan adaptor that its being shared with gets assigned a static ip, but dhcp doesn't work. Even when I run my own dhcp server on the lan adaptor none of the clients get ip's so I'm assuming the connections aren't being shared at all. The 3G modem actually shows up as a dialup connection and after some reading, it turns out that this sort of thing happens quite often when trying to share something that windows thinks is dialup, although nobody has posted a solution. Tried to bridge the connections, but part of the cryteria for enabling bridging is that both connections have to be "high speed" and since the modem shows up as dialup, windows won't let me enable it. Thats all I've tried; does anyone have any other suggestions about how I can do this? Any input what so ever would be great. Cheers, Ben.

System Center 2012 has gone RTM

Hi all: Microsoft released the System Center 2012 family of products to manufacturing today. Those of you with volume license agreements can download them now, the rest of you will be able to get them on April 17TH. I downloaded SCCM 2012 today and got it going in a test environment. Unfortunately accessibility hasn't changed any since the RC. Window-Eyes didn't read any of the installation dialogs, Narrator read some of them, enough that I could get things going. The UI itself is a mess. Many controls have no field labels, the new ribbon doesn't appear to work, and its just complex. I'll state that we're at the stage where to a point I don't know what's an accessibility issue, what's a screen reader issue and what's a training issue, (Ryan not knowing the right commands to navigate the UI.) I think it's a safe thing to say that System Center 2012 is not a good example of Microsoft's commitment to accessibility, however. I've contacted our Microsoft TAM and let him know this is a problem, also that there is no way we will be implementing this in our company until I have a work around. How much good that will do I don't know, but we pay a lot for said TAM so time to see how far this will go. I encourage those of you planning to implement this to contact your TAMs as well, hopefully someone in Microsoft will listen to us. Ryan
