Hello, I've got a setup that I'm wanting to share some resources pc to pc. The router is a belkin f5d7231-4, it's wireless as well as having some ethernet ports. In to this a win7 home premium box is plugged. This box has attached to it two printers, one via parralel port it is a brother laser printer, the other via usb, but has wireless capability, an epson stylus nx400 it's a printer, scanner, copier and can as I said do wireless. The two other machines are windows xp laptops one here the other roaming but comes back. What I'd like to do is share some files from the 7 box and allow the xp machines to get to them, and to share files from the xp box and allow the 7 box to get at them. For the printers I'd like to share the laser attached to the 7 box and also to get the epson off of a USB connection to the 7 box and have it go full wireless so that all three machines can get to it. I don't have a domain, and I've understood that 7 does things differently in terms of sharing, I would use a workgroup setup if these were all xp machines. Suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dave.

NVDA and Remote Desktop support

Hi all, I just subscribed to this list. I'm not really a sysadmin, but more of a software developer. However, as a good developer you certainly need some sysadmin skills. I recently developed a little prototype to see if it was possible to make RDP accessible using NVDA. This works quite well. Right now, there is only basic speech support and this has not been implemented in the way I would prefer. So, there's still quite some work to do to make this a good solution. Hi Andrew, Would your printer allow scanning to Sharepoint? Havign looked into Sharepoint I don't' think my Manager is aware of the pitfalls of directly scanning into Sharepoint. If we scan directly into Sharepoint the files wont' be auto-tagged. Therefore going forward if an employee uses this method to scan say 50 photos and doesn't' tag them it can create a bit of a mess on the SP Library. Measuring bandwidth home environment

Hi, Can anyone suggest a simple way of monitoring bandwidth used by specific devices on a network? I know that some top end consumer routers support snmp so I could use this in combination with some form of monitoring tool on another box, but mine doesn't so it's not an option. The solution I was thinking of was to turn off dhcp on my router, configure a box with 2 nic cards and bridge them using ics - one that connects to the router with a static and one that runs dhcp and is also connected to the router, there by forcing all the trafic on the network to go through my box. I know that products like ISA can do this, but this is just a home environment so I'm thinking installing something like 2008 to get ISA would be a bit overkill. We're moving to an ISP where we'll have a limited amount of transfer a month and whilst I don't really want a big brother type environment where I can see exactly what everyones doing, I would like something that I can use for a couple of months so that I can get a rough idea of how much we use and what devices are responsible for the bulk of our usage. Does anyone have any suggestions? All thoughts are welcome. Cheers, Ben.

sound in Windows server 2008r2 and 2012

I know that under Windows server 2003, sound is disabled by default. Should I assume that the same is true under Windows 2008r2 and windows server 2012? If so, Is there a relatively easy way to enable sound? Does the start menu behave more like XP, or windows 7? I will be attempting to install both operating systems under windows 7 using VMware player 5. Once I have learned a bit about them, I'll be installing them on some servers that I picked up.
