Hi All, I echo this point. When upgrading from 2012 R2 to 2016, I ran into problems. In a production environment I would have had backups made of the drive img. It is best to place the new servers online and bring them into a domain for example and let them be domain controllers and hand off the FSMO roles and let them take over. Once confirmed that things are working as expected and bring up the functional level, then you can decommission the servers. This allows you to bring the older servers back online to get you back online should you have a major issue.
