Accessibility in the work place

Guys, I've had to write a report based on my job that I referenced earlier. Here is a very rough draft but I wanted to get this out to my fellow SysAdmins. Beginning on June 20th, 2016, I started an internship with VC3 Inc. who provides Information Technology services for various local governments and private companies in the Southeast U.S. These services include but are not limited to Virtual Desktop Interfaces and Physical Systems Administration. The internship promised to end with full time employment as a Systems Engineer with their South Carolina Team. This position was exactly what I was looking for long term. This position was responsible for Server Administration, Network Administration and Design for over 200 different agencies over 3 or so states. Unfortunatley, when I started the postion, accessibility became to be a large barrier in completing my dutires. I first started out by training in the First Call Resolution Team that is responsible for taking the initial calls from customers with their various technical issues like resetting passwords and creating user accounts. While in this team, I was t training on the billing and ticketing system known as ConnectWise. I found this software completely inaccessibile to JAWS and Zoomtext. I spent several days trying to use different techniques that I thought would work in order to allow me full access to this fotware. Eventually, I I found and App for the Apple IOS and tried it with no success. One application would allow for limited access to some features and the other wouldn't. While working through those issues I was introduced to another application called Labtech which is responsible for remotely administering all systems maintained by VC3. This software too was very inaccessible and was virtually useless to me. As before, I began experimenting with it's settings and with no luck again, found myself really struggling to do anything productive. During all this, I reached out to the software vendor along side VC3. At the end of the internship, we were unable to get the software vendor to see how important this issue is for my employment. The only good thing that came from this internship is networking with other individuals that are in my field. They were able to see that I am well versed in my field of Information Technology. Sadly at this time, I am unable to recommend others to attempt employment at VC3 who have a visual impairment.

Accessible Nas solutions?

Hello Everyone. Please forgive the cross posting. I'm wondering if anyone has any thoughts on the following. I'm thinking of purchasing a nas solution for my home so users files are backed up in real time. Ideally, I'd like a solution where all files are stored locally i.e to internal hard drives, and you can install a dropbox stile app on each computer and specify folders to automatically back up. QNAP, Synology, Netgear, DLink and Buffalo all seem to be manufacturing Nas solutions. I've tried Synology in the past and wasn't a huge fan of their web interface. You couldn't do a lot with it at all which is a real shame as the devices have a lot of functionality. My primary concern is web interface accessibility. It would be nice to have a manufacturer that provides a decent web interface and that take accessibility seriously to the point that they're not breaking things every 2 minutes. I could build my own but i've then got the concern of how reliable the real time backup apps are in a home made solution. So, in short does anyone have any thoughts on which devices you've found to be accessible/reliable? iOS and android access is not essential. What web interfaces have you been able to access with screen readers? I look forward to your thoughts. Anyone has compiled version of nvda remote server for windows?

Credential Management

Hello All, I am new to the list, but I had a question. I am a JAWS user who has been in the I.T. field for over 16 years give or take. I do web hosting on the side as well. I have an accessibility issue which I will address in a different thread, but anyways... For the moment, I was wondering for all you Network/Server Admins did you use any accessibile Password/Credential Managers? A company I worked for used Remote Desktop Manager to do this but I find it very useless using JAWS and I just don't feel like trying to use ZoomText or Magic just for this app. Any thoughts? Exam Software

Hello everybody, I need to get a Security Plus certification as soon as I can because the lack of it is keeping me from getting a few security administrator positions that I have applied for. I have tried the Test King demo and that just did not work with jaws. Does anyone have something they could recommend? DNN community needs more blind developers and administrators

Hi all. I just figured I'd throw this out there. I decided to put all my community sites on DNN (formerly DotNetNuke) in order to persuade the DNn community to care more about accessibility as a whole and to learn development skills against in order to develop compliant themes in the forge, or that's my eventual project. Many community members have assisted, so now I need to figure out where they want their contributions, in order that eventually the DNN community will see them as important and replace their own default crappy edit menu (requires a mouse over to activate it, and it's not anything that has keyboard access by default), in the default install. I pln to firther enhance accessibility soon.

Efficient IP

I'm using an appliance called Efficient IP. Has anyone else used it? It's not Flash or Java but damn it's inaccessible. Unlabelled links and buttons, the developer never heard of alt tags, no tables, dodgy edit fields all over the place. I'm not sure how I'm going to manage this thing yet.
