DNN community needs more blind developers and administrators

Hi all. I just figured I'd throw this out there. I decided to put all my community sites on DNN (formerly DotNetNuke) in order to persuade the DNn community to care more about accessibility as a whole and to learn development skills against in order to develop compliant themes in the forge, or that's my eventual project. Many community members have assisted, so now I need to figure out where they want their contributions, in order that eventually the DNN community will see them as important and replace their own default crappy edit menu (requires a mouse over to activate it, and it's not anything that has keyboard access by default), in the default install. I pln to firther enhance accessibility soon.

Efficient IP

I'm using an appliance called Efficient IP. Has anyone else used it? It's not Flash or Java but damn it's inaccessible. Unlabelled links and buttons, the developer never heard of alt tags, no tables, dodgy edit fields all over the place. I'm not sure how I'm going to manage this thing yet.

follow up to Ubiquiti controller setup

Hi all. well, so far, I am pretty damn impressed with these unify AC-PRO access points. Long range, fast response and they seem like good stuff. The controller software is doable but difficult. Version 4x of the software was very accessible and worked beautifully. However, it doesn't implement all the latest features and will not upgrade equipment to the latest firmware. version 5 of the controller software, current is version 5.0.7 is sort of doable with google Chrome but not at all a fun experience and there is a lot of guess work involved. I can kind of make it work with Chrome on windows but it pretty much completely breaks if one uses firefox or internet explorer. on another note, for configuring access points, the iPhone app works beautifully if you only want to configure the basic features. it won't let you do a bunch of the more advanced stuff but for quick setup and go, it works very well and is completely accessible with voice over. Accessibility of PFSense web UI

Hello, Has anyone used the PFSense web UI recenetly? The last time I touched it was about 4 years ago and although it was once accessible, it had become completely unusable. I'm looking at a project where it would come in very handy but I will need to look for an alternative if accessibility hasn't changed to the web UI. I know I could use the CLI but it's not really designed for that purpose for day to day administration. Sure, it can be used but the web UI is more efficient. Any feedback / good alternative swould be very appreciated. Thanks Darragh

Hi Brian The Ubiquiti Access Points work with Window-Eyes. A couple of things to note is that you will need to check for a firmware update. For some reason it may not broadcast the SSID until it is happy that you have all available updates. If you have any wireless devices on your network, you will have a couple of options. You can reconfigure them to use the AP, or if you are connecting your AP to a wireless router you can let them stay on the wireless router's LAN segment and not worry about your access point. You'll figure it out I'm sure. The Uibiquiti works very well in open spaces. Indoors they do extend your range quite a bit, however remember that walls, elevator shafts etc. will have an impact on the range. Because the AP transceiver has a little more juice than your typical wireless router it might overwhelm any other wireless networks you have in the same area, but as they say might is right. But if those systems are within range, but further away you will be OK. There was some talk about POE having issues on CAT-6, but I have not encountered any problems. Individually the cost of the long range AP is around $150 to $170 from Amazon. A three pack should be less than $500.00; I haven't checked lately. If you are setting up three of them with the same SSID and channel you will find that they hand off the connections very nicely. I found they do that much better than when setting up multiple wireless home routers with the same SSID and channel. For the price of the Ubiquiti AP I am very impressed. I've been using the Ubiquiti Aps at home for about a year; as others have stated, the configuration interface is very usable with a screen reader. I've used Window-Eyes on the PC and Voiceover on OSX. IF you use simple PSK and don’t say authenticate with radius there’s no need, everything will take place on the AP hardware itself. Good news is each has both automatic or user assignable frequencies so you can place 3 together with one on channel 1, one on 6 and one on 11 and they won’t overlap. Hi all. so I have been asked to help with a wifi installation in a fairly big space. I am tempted to go with the unify ap stuff from Ubiquiti networks. This stuff gets rave reviews and looks quite good. However, their things seem to require using a java based controler software for configuration. I am concerned about how accessible this might or might not be. From reading some of their support stuff, even to enable ssh on an ap to allow configuration requires use of this controler software. It might be usable and not a problem but I don't want to spend like a thousand bucks on stuff I can't configure. Merger between VFO group and AI Squared.

AI Squared has been merged into VFO group. I'm sure you've heard at this stage. So, what do you think? Are those of you who use Window Eyes worried? Do you see the VFO group retaining both Jaws and Window Eyes? I think this has the potential to be huge news.
