turning off secure boot and UEFI

Hello, I've had to do a new win10 install and somehow I must have cleared my bios settings, had also to replace a power supply. The first clue came after the machine was booted up again and wouldn't boot off of any USB drive, so I checked system information, UEFI was back on as was secure boot. I do not remember how I turned this off as I just did it once and forgot about it. I do not like UEFI nor secure boot, although I understand the purpose i'd rather be able to set my machine to boot off an inserted USB thumb drive. The motherboard is an Asus m5a97 and the bios is an american megatrends. Suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dave.

win10 and booting via USB drive with accessible repair

Hello, I just did a new win10 1803 install 64 bit on a machine. I found something i've never seen before and am wondering considering I am now unable to duplicate the action. I've got the secure boot in my uefi set to disabled and I created a thumb drive using win10 media creation utility. This went fine. At first the system would just go in to windows without booting off the thumb drive, I tried several USB ports, one would boot off the thumb drive then on a subsequent boot not do so then another would, now none will. Ok, so I assumed on the times it wasn't booting off the thumb drive that it wasn't working. Somehow and this is what i'd like to do again, I got to what is presumably the recovery screen, it has things like continue (boot hard drive), repair advanced options and usb uefi drive boot. How I know this is I hit narrator's keys thinking it had booted off the thumb drive and narrator actually read out this recovery screen. I'd like to get back to this screen. Has anyone else seen this behavior? Thanks. Dave.

Multiple browsers managing favorites

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has found a good practice for managing staff computers when they use multiple browsers. I myself use 4 browsers somewhat regularly. Usually when I upgrade a staff's computer, I can go to the browsers they indicate and export bookmarks/favorites for uploading into a new computer. Just recently, and it doesn't happen often, a computer completely failed and I couldn't recover someone's numerous bookmarks. We aren't setup for roaming profiles so they were lost in that instance. Anyone have any policies or recommended procedures for helping their staff manage their favorites/bookmarks when multiple browsers are in play? Thanks. ###

I think you can still stay on JRE 8 for a while yet, with security updates. For work purposes, I occasionally use a Java-based tool, but it’s a command line based program. I installed adoptopenjdk 11 to run it, which is under the GPL, and built from the OpenJDK sources. Hi all, I guess many of you have heard that Oracle doesn't allow free usage for the Java JRE in companys anymore. We have some old web apps that still use the java plugin. Is there any alternative for that? I recently heard that Oracle hasn't open sourced the web plugin so OpenJDK needs to create their own plugin though that might take a little while. Is someone using something different now? Tool to create a website that is not a CMS

Hi all Bit of a strange question, but does anyone know of an accessible tool, for Windows, that will allow a client of mine to create a website? She doesn’t want to use Drupal or Wordpress but still wants things like CSS to have a consistent style across the site. She only knows very basic HTML so A program where a lot of coding needs to be done won’t work either. I’ve tried a lot of programs where you’re meant to drag and drop elements but none of them work with NVDA or Jaws. It’s for a charity website, so it shouldn’t need to be that advanced, maybe a signup form for the mailing list and a contact form. Thanks for any help. Hi, My experience with the VDI solutions is that they typically don't run using RDP directly. Users log in via a web session or using specific client software which orchestrates the creation of the desktop VM as well as set up the remote connection. It may be RDP going on somewhere at the back end but connecting via RDP straight is typically an admin only function. It is possible to get around this but that typically involves going outside the VDI solution or setting up an always on static VM somewhere else to do this. Also looking at the Azure managed desktop feature we see similar here as well, although it is possible to just set up a VM in a dedicated vnet.
