Anybody know how to use the fedora preupgrade-cli script? I ran it to upgrade a system from fedora 9 to 10. After downloading 900Mb of files, it said "Upgrade will begin after you reboot". So I rebooted. But now I cannot ssh into the machine. It seems to me that the preupgrade-cli program shouldn't require you to have console access. Else how do you remotely upgrade a fedora machine?

Hello, A while back i read something about opensuse being accessible during the install. With a little time i decided to google this, there is an elusive podcast on the subject that i'm trying to get a listen to. I was wanting to know opensuse's current status and if anyone was using it and how it stacked up to other linux distros? Thanks. Dave.

application imaging

Hello, A while back when i had ghost 7.5 enterprise edition that had a program on it called application imager, ai snapshot. What you did was take a before snapshot of a system, then installed and customized your application and took an after snapshot, it then did a comparison and generated an executable file. I do not have this anymore and am wanting to app image, i'm going to have to a laptop and some other system reinstalls and i'd like to push out exe files with the apps in place. Does anyone use this capability? Thanks. Dave.

unix machine and ldap authentication

Hello, Long shot question, but here goes. Does anyone have a Unix either Linux or FreeBSD machine authenticating users against an openldap directory? If so, can you write me? I am having issues on configuration. Thanks. Dave.

net screen and cisco pix questions

My appologies to the moderator, I posted from the wrong address. (please delete that message or ignore) Anyone familiar with netscreen firewalls. I have one to do some configuring on and un familiar. I'm wanting to do things like adding a rule and updating ACLs for specific ip / port combinations. I'm somewhat familiar with pix and very familiar with Cisco ACL expressions but this environment baffles me. I'd be open to a good pointer for beginner reading. or if someone's skilled in this but out of work I'd pay some cheese off list for your time for a primer. ( Cisco Pix as well) I'll probably have a fairly steady flow. I'm a carrier guy very solid on things like BGP and traffic engineering and I'm working for a company that's heavy on layer 2 and simple IP. The main issue is the people before me were extremely unskilled and left no documentation. I'm doing cool things now in the switching fabrick (802-1W + vrrp+ a logical VLAN design) but the firewalls baffle me because they aren't IOS. (I wish I could just do the whole thing around /24s or shorter and OSPF for loops only ; ) let bgp do the rest) Anyway I'm up for an on list discussion of Juniper Net Screen or contact me off list. I'm also up for a data exchange of pix / net screen for complex backbone traffic engineering including PFR if anyone needs it. Thanks Scott

grml in a vm?

Hello, Is anyone running grml in a vm? I've got vmware server and am trying to run grml in a virtual environment. At the boot prompt i enter grml swspeak and then the system boots, this is with the latest grml, then i get a distorted screetch from my sound card under the vm. Does grml have an issue with vmware server's default audio adapter? If so, is there a workaround? Thanks. Dave.

upgrading from vmware server2 to workstation

I'm thinking of giving vmware workstation a try because I've heard that jaws works well in a virtual machine if you have vmware workstation. I currently use the free product, server2. Jaws does not work well with a Windows virtual machine created with server2. Specifically, the jaws cursor doesn't work. I believe that's because the video intercept driver won't install. Anyway, here are my questions: 1. Has anyone used jaws in a virtual machine in vmware workstation? Does the jaws cursor work? 2. I believe I need to have either fedora or Red Hat, not debian, on my machine to use vmware workstation. Is that correct? 3. Can I backup my server2 virtual machines and then restore them after I've upgraded to workstation?
