any ghost users?

Hello, Do we have any Norton Ghost users specifically ghost 11 on list? If so, can you write me privately? I'm having an issue ghosting one drive to another, 20 gb master to a 320 gb slave drive, ghost is freezing through the process, though not always in the same place. Thanks. Dave.

linux directory backup with symlinks

Hello, I've got a directory a du -sh on it shows it's 330 mb in size. This is on a centos 5.3 box. It has directories, regular files and symlinks in it. This shows what happens when i'm working late, brain goes to mush. I want to back it all up symlinks and all making an exact copy for archival purposes. I've tried some tar commands -cpf and -chpf but those gave me different archive sizes, when i uncompressed the folder it was larger or smaller than the original and not by a little bit either there was a 5 mb difference in one case, a 35 mb in another, i'm assuming the symlinks are the snagpoint, and that tar is creating hard links. I thought about rsync but didn't think it archived, pax i don't know. Suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dave.

Vmware workstation 6.5

Hello, Is anyone using vmware workstation 6.5 with jfw? I was running vmware server on an xp pro machine with vm's inside that, and jfw scripts on the host, now i'm having to switch to workstation 6.5. My first question is are any scripts or other configuration files needed for workstation? Second issue, when i installed a vm on first boot of the vm after the operating system was installed workstation went right in to the vm, i didn't have to hit control g or anything. This was not wanted and getting out with control+alt didn't work, mouse moving trial and error finally got me out. I do have additional questions about specific vm's, but they can wait until i can sort out the basics, any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

performing unattended XP installs on machines that need 3RD party SCSI or RAID drivers?

Hi all: Quite a few of the machines at work, higher end Dell Precisions, need a 3RD party SCSI driver to see any hard drives during an XP install. During a normal interactive install, the user is prompted to press a certain function key, I believe F6, at the very beginning of the install if such drivers are necessary. They then insert a floppy with the drivers on it and the install proceeds normally. I was wondering if anyone had any idea how this was done with an unattended install? With Vista this issue never comes up, but XP doesn't seem to have as many drivers built into the CD as Vista does. Loading the drivers onto the same disk as the unattended file doesn't seem to work, so was wondering if there was an easy way to work around this? Thanks. Ryan

cloning a hard disk

Hello, I've got a machine that's got a hd in it that's running out of space. I've attached a second drive to it and want to clone the disk from smaller to bigger adjusting for file size. I do not have my old copy of ghost 5.1 floppy, or 7.5 for network disks, btw if anyone does i'd appreciate that, and am looking for something that's a drop in, boot up, enter a few commands and it's off and cloning. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks. Dave.

Hello, I have a client wishes to know how difficult it would be to use the Orca screen reader in the Linox environment. She is experienced with JAWS in the Windows environment. Does anyone have a short keyboard navigation guide for Orca or linox in general? Thanks. Troy

I notice general system administration questions get asked on this list as well as ones relating directly to accessibility. I've used the site http://www.serverfault.com for general system administration questions and had good luck. To summerize it's a site where people ask and answer questions, and the answers get voted up and down based on the judgement of everyone viewing the questions. I've found that there are simply more eyeballs on the site then on email lists so am more likely to get a good answer quickly unless it's something very nitch like installing Jaws on windows 2008.

fedora preupgrade-cli

Anybody know how to use the fedora preupgrade-cli script? I ran it to upgrade a system from fedora 9 to 10. After downloading 900Mb of files, it said "Upgrade will begin after you reboot". So I rebooted. But now I cannot ssh into the machine. It seems to me that the preupgrade-cli program shouldn't require you to have console access. Else how do you remotely upgrade a fedora machine?
