Since quite a few of you use the Windows console, I thought I'd bring to your attention some major accessibility improvement in the terminal/console experience coming in the next Fall Creators Update. We would love to hear your feedback on the new integration with Narrator (and other screen readers): I, for one, am excited to see the new architectural changes that will hopefully pave the way for better integration going forward. Anyone else working with AWS out there?

Hi, My work is starting to migrate to AWS heavily and I’m trying to get up to speed. Wondering if anyone else is working in this environment especially with a multi VPC environment with cross account access. I’m starting to work with the AWS cli but am very very green. Anyone else with pointers and good n00by advice would be most appreciated. Thanks

Hi Andrew, What are you using now instead of roaming profiles? Is there something i don't know that might be better suited? Another option could be to use Group Policy Preferences to get the desktop icons, for this, when I was having this issue it was with XP and 2003 DCs, that was how long ago it was. I created a group for users who want Office on the desktop, then had a login script which copied the shortcuts for Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook from the All Users folder to the desktop so it overwrote the existing file that was there. I spent ages trying to identify why it happened in the first place but I did have it. I eventually got rid of roaming profiles altogether and had a much easier life. If you have workstations with differing Office versions this did cause issues as you could end up with multiple version icons on the desktop. Hi Andrew, No we have a pretty homogenized system over here. All are running Office 2010 32 bit. Though we started using roaming profiles a few months ago because to keep settings, desktop icons and stuff. But making groups and dropping icons using scripts or gpo might be an interesting idea. Does it help to drop the most used icons into the machines public desktop? Hi all, Anyone has seen that or knows how to fix it? We have Windows 2008 R2 servers and Windows 7 Pro 64 bit machines. We have roaming profiles enabled to make it easy for the user to change machines and for us as well. Now we figured out that often the desktop icons are broken. llike ms word and excel icons can't open excel on another machine. though the software is the same. its even the same location it should find its exe file. Anyone knows what causes this issue that desktop icons get broken using roaming profiles? Buying a NAS for my home

Hi all, I plan to get myself a NAS. I am thinking of the Synology DS216J. What do you think? We have QNAP NASs in the office which are unfortunately not very accessible with their Web GUI. We also have 2 old Buffalo DiskStations which still work though they are very old. their interface is also pretty accessible. portable power

Hello, I'm in the market for portable power. I am looking for recommendations for products that people have bought, used, and liked, and why you like them. The first is a portable power bank. My goal is portability, but the biggest battery I can find. I've read about several, I don't mind if it looks like a brick, if it can go in a laptop bag it can go with me, but it's got to have a big battery, be able to handle multiple devices if needed, and would be nice if it would support quick charge/fast charge. The second item I'm looking for is a wireless fast charging pad. I've seen a few of them, ones by Choetech but they don't have the charger with them and some of them are not even fast charging, they're just wireless. Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

JFW reading terminals

Hi, Not sure if this is the best place to ask this but it's the only list I'm subscribed to. I'm supposed to be working with a lot of cisco equipment at the minute, through SSH and terminal sessions. I'm using JFW since it was bought for me, all of our cisco equipment requires you to be on a remote server to configgure it and I can't use NVDA remote anyway because of firewalls, ETC. I've got JFW working fine remotely, but either on the local JAWS or remote JAWS I can't get it to read terminals. I'm using both PUTTY and tera term. It reads CMD fine just not terminals. Are there any special settings ETC I need to change? Cheers for any help. NVDA with Secure CRT is amazing!

Because I'm having a lot of problems with Jaws at the moment, I'm using NVDA a lot more than I would have. NVDA is slowing me down in Outlook and of course, I cant use it in remote desktop environments reliably but where it is really shining is in SecureCRT! I've just successfully connected to a Linux machine, Then used SSH to connect to a remote server where I needed to update some files. I used simple commands. Ls, pwd, ps etc and the feedback was perfect every single time. Then I ran nano and to my delight I was able to accurately navigate by character and by line. I haven't had that kind of reliability from a Windows screen reader in an SSH session before. I'm just delighted! I've also found good success in the command line and in powershell.
