No, you can't connect to network and you can't record. You can
play off sd Cards and usb. It has an internal memory and can
play daisy books, cd, cd roms and mp3 discs. It has a 4 hour
rechargeable battery.

The ptn2 can also do most or all of what the ptx can do, except for network related features.

Hi Kelsey,
First a minor clarification to what you said in a previous post. Although
the PTX1 may not yet be able to connect to a network, the hardware certainly
does have this capability, both through a RJ45 network socket and a wireless
capability. If it has not been activated in your player, this is due to the
firmware being restricted. I know that when RNIB released the player at
first, it was intended that at some stage the update would be issued to
bring these other features on stream. If that has not happened yet, or is
no longer going to happen, Idon't know the current position. It might be
worth asking RNIB Customer Services about this. If it has been activated
for some people, it may be just a case of installing a firmware upgrade to
activate the network features.
Now back to your original question....
If you are asking about players that are available through the RNIB Talking
Books Service, the PTX1, to my knowledge, is the most up-to-date player.
The Plextalk Pocket (PTP1) is more recent but is not available through the
library. It is a much more portable device and does allow you to record
pretty decent quality audio. It plays back DAISY titles and a number of
audio formats such as MP3, WAV. It can also play synthetically formats such
as TXT, DOC and HTML. As someone else also mentioned, it can be linked by
WIFI for playing internet radio or for file transfer to the computer. All
in all a really quite nice compact player.
To my mind, the real bonus of the PTX1 is its ability to play from CD, SD
card or USB and the ability to transfer from CD to the other media without
using a computer. None of the other players are as flexible in this regard.
Hope this helps.
Jamie

Hi,
I've just joined this list. I have a Ptx1 and use NetPlexTalk.
I've used Ptx1 for 3 years and NetPlexTalk for about 3 weeks.
I have a question. Is there a newer Plextalk player after the
Ptx1? If so, what are the new features?
Thanks!
Kelsey

I am also having problems getting my PC to recognise the Plextalk Pocket. If
I connect via the USB cable and then turn on the Pocket, it then says that
Windows does not recognise the USB device,, or sometimes I have had an I/O
error message. I have more success if I turn the Pocket on before connecting
the cable, but I think this is contrary to the instructions.
My second issue is copying DAISY files from my PC to the 16 GB SD card
while it is in the Pocket. It will do a few dozen files and then stop saying
that there is an I/O error. I then have to copy and paste the remaining
files, but it will invariably stop again further down the line and I have to
again copy and paste and so on....
I am using Windows XP.
Any suggestions as to why I am struggling?
Thanks,
Steve
I have just got a Plextalk Pocket. Having pressed the stop button, if I
don't resume play within about a minute, then I find that which ever key I
press, the unit first gives me the time and I have two re-press the button a
second time in order to get it to do its normal function. I thought that the
date should only be spoken when pressing 5. How can I correct this?
Steve
I have a new mains adapter suitable for users of the Plextalk Pocket who
reside in the United States. I am asking for £24 + £6 for shipping by
airmail from the UK. I can accept payment via PayPal.
Steve
Ok, thank you very much. I am glad you could actually check it for me
since nobody around me have ptr2. But just one more thing, I
understand that in the case of ptr2 you have to enter the number of
minits for the sleeptimer on the number pad, so now what is the range
possible to enter for the minimum and maximum amount of minits?
