Hello all, I need to draw your attention to the System Center Configuration Manager feedback site and specifically the topic of accessibility. This feedback item has been marked as complete but in my opinion, as there are outstanding accessibility issues in 1702 - untested but unconfirmed as fixed in 1706, the topic should remain a very active area of discussion within this team. As my SCCM implementation really starts to grow legs and we're trying to do a lot more with it, the reports are really letting me down. I have no real way of finding out how my application or update deployments are going. This kind of thing needs to be addressed. I have asked on this feedback item that it be kept open. I ask those of you who can to echo this request. Mark and his team have done an exdceptional job. I can't express enough how much I appreciate it but I think they may be closing this without getting everything finished and that would be a shame for those of us who are spending a lot of time in SCCM. Is SCCM good for smaller environments?

Hey all, Not dealing necessarily with accessibility at all, but speaking of SCCM, is it good for the smaller environment? I'm curious because right now, the best we've been able to come up with is a combination between WDS, Otter, and WSUS for deployment and orchestration; well, Otter would have been used for Orchestration regardless simply because it's easier than Scorch to set up. My question is, though, does SCCM offer anything in the way of advantages over the cobbled together solution we have? Any reason why I should push SCCM? Resources are lower than we'd like, so right now, we're stuck with what we've got until we can get more (though between the four of us, we do manage to have about seven physical servers between local and offsite resources (though some of them are older and are being phased out.) one of the things that drives me insane with Microsoft software is the amount of Ram one single product takes . That's so far what's keeping us away; others in my group say, why use SCCM when something cobbled together takes less resources and works just as well?

OpsView Atom VS. SCOM

Hi all, I'm curious about this. All of our hardware is either Dell (for servers and storage) and Ubiquiti (for networking). Dell, being the awesome vender they are, have one of the most comprehensive management platforms I've ever seen in OpenManage. The point here is . seemingly, I've not been able to find an opsView plugin that connects with OME/OMSA/OMCI at all . SCOM has one, but is awfully resource intensive (I think?) for only about 20 or so VMs (more are stood up all the time considering experiments are occurring all the time around here.) Any advantages with OpsView over SCOM either for accessibility, resource usage, or others? Any reason we should ditch OpsView for SCOM? SCOM seems to have more integrations with other products than OpsView does.

VPN - L2TP and the Virgin Hub 3 (and perhaps BT)

If you do not use VPN - hit delete now. Having installed a new Server running Windows Server 2016, our latest problem has been VPN communication from home to the office. PPTP worked just fine, but Server 2016's Best Practices Advisor (BPA) said that we should be using a higher level of security communication. Setting up L2TP, the minimum advised, failed. I'll spare those details for now, but if you try and fail, and also have Virgin's Hub 3, forget it. It simply will not ever work - officially. There is a solution, but that involves purchasing a router (a wireless one if you need that too), at your own expense, to connect to the Virgin Hub 3. You then have to configure the Hub 3 as a Modem, and go from there. Virgin did once support L2TP, but they have removed the option. The Virgin user lists are full of IT managers who, since at least January this year, are complaining the their home workers have the problem, and that they are forced to open the PPTP server option. And if you have the same with British Telecom, do not be surprised if you have the same problem. A colleague needing access to our server contacted BT, and the two support people he spoke to in Delhi (or was it Bombay), did not even know what L2TP was. He solved it himself but I don't have details. With Internet Security a top priority, especially for businesses, I am staggered about this! George.

Accessible TOTP tools

Several Web sites that I use offer Time-Based One-Time Passwords (TOTP - RFC 6238) as the second factor in a two-factor authentication scheme. To manage TOTP and to create the six-digit time-based codes that need to be entered during the authentication process, I'm using oathtool under Linux, which is excellent: it's a command line tool, and one can easily write a shell script to generate the codes. I've tried FreeTOTP under iOS, but it isn't very accessible. What other tools (for various operating systems) have you found useful for this purpose?
