I have created two Facebook groups. the first is Tech Makers. My objective with this group is to provide a convenient medium for people who are technology creators to discuss relevant topics and get feedback from peers. I hope that anyone who is interested in collaborating about tech topics will join and add others who might be interested in participating. The other group is Project Connect. the goal for this group is to provide a convenient medium for developers, admins, and others to discuss and share ideas about their projects. Sometimes, you have a project you are excited about, but you don't know how to get others on board with it. Other times, you might want some side project to work on, but you're not sure of what things other people are doing. I've wanted to think about certification once again, but due to just this problem, I've not thought of it. I had a friend of mine ... who is also a disability specialist, so they took her word for it, sign the forms and what not, and then when I finally got to the testing center, the guy at the front desk ended up having to read to me since I wasn't even discovered on the list for an exam! The website doesn't allow me to complete the process of applying for an accommodation. 3. There's nobody to contact about this. Before I start digging deeper, has anyone out there had similar problems in the past with Pearson Vue, with regards to applying for accomodations. Munki and Administering a Mac

Just wanted get feedback from folks around here about Munki and if anyone's had any experiences admin-ing macs. Good bad? Primarily Munki apparently is done via terminal. I'm somewhat new to using terminal on the mac and found it a bit clunky with Voiceover. Although I've just started so. Thanks all German

Active Directory Administrative Center.

Hello, Do any of you use the active directory administrative center much and if you do, are there any reasonably good keyboard shortcuts for it? It seems like a really nice interface. From time to time I come back to it from the standard MMC type layouts such as active directory users and computers etc. But every time I come back to it, it doesn't seem as efficient from the perspective of a keyboard user. There are just too many controls in the way. Let's say I find the list / treeview for browsing through OU's. When I find an OU that I need, it takes about 7 or 8 tab presses to get over to the list of items in that OU. Also, there are read only edit boxes after this that have some very interesting details but moving to them is very cumbersum as well. It might be the type of application that is perfect for scripting but I'd like to avoid that if possible as if it's something I'm going to use regularly, then I'd want to be able to use it from the domain controllers as well. I have a policy of little to no third party customizations on domain controllers. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks Darragh

Windows PE with Narrator

Hello everyone: The ISO images for the Windows 10 insider build with talking install have been posted. You can download them at this link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windowsinsiderpreviewadva… Note that you do need to be in the Windows Insiders program to access these images, membership is free with a valid copy of Windows. These ISOs are accessible regardless of if you are on the slow or fast ring. The instructions are below, please note that as you will be playing with the Windows installation process, I recommend not doing this on your primary machine unless you have a really really good backup. AKA, do this on a VM or a test machine if at all possible. a. Download the Windows 10 Media Creation tool from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 b. From that page, follow the instructions for creating bootable media to install Windows on another computer. You will need a USB drive at this point. This process will format the drive appropriately, download a copy of Windows 10 and put all the files on the USB drive. Note these are not the files you will ultimately use but this step gets your USB drive ready. c. When this process is done, open the USB drive in File Explorer and delete all the files. d. Now download the 15002 ISO file and open it in File Explorer. e. Copy all the files from the 15002 ISO you just opened to your USB drive. f. If you want to use a newer ISO down the road, just repeat steps C, D, and E here. That is, update your bootable media with newer files. g. If you want to use diskpart instead of the Media Creation tool to make the bootable USB with ISO, instead of steps a,b, & c above, the following commands will delete all files on the USB and make it bootable: i. Open the command prompt ii. Type: diskpart iii. Type: list disk iv. This will show all connected disks, their disk numbers, connection status and disk size v. Using the sizes, determine which disk is your USB drive and remember its disk number (i.e. Disk 2) vi. Type the following commands: (where X is the disk number of your USB drive) 1. sel dis X 2. clean 3. cre par pri 4. active 5. format fs=FAT32 Quick 6. exit h. Once the disk is formatted and prepared, you can copy the Windows installation files onto the disk from the ISO. 4. Install Windows a. Once your Computer is set to boot using the new drive and you have the USB bootable drive with the ISO image ready, insert the bootable USB drive and power on the PC. i. Ideally have a USB headset connected, although we've found Surface Pro speakers and onboard sound from several other computers will also work. b. Wait about 10-15 seconds and then press CTRL+Win+Enter to start Narrator. If you hear Narrator talking, you will be good to go. If you do not, try other USB audio hardware. To be clear, there are some configurations that will not work at this point. If you hit a point where audio won't work, power the PC off, remove the USB drive and power the PC back on. You should be back in your copy of Windows that was previously installed. c. Follow the questions and process for installing Windows. i. When you are asked to choose a partition, the best one to use will likely be selected by default. To read partition sizes, use Narrator table reading commands of CAPS+F3 and CAPS+F4. Caps+F3 will read a row cell by cell where you will hear the details about the selected partition. ii. Since you are likely installing on to a partition that has already had windows, you can pick between formatting the partition or not. If you do not format, you'll get a message about an existing copy of Windows already being present and saying that will be moved to Windows.old. You are not able to restore this but your files and such will be in there. Do not rely on this as a guarantee that you can get your files. iii. If you encounter something saying rich text, use Narrator's caps+m to read the text. iv. Pay close attention once the install starts. You'll hear a message about preparing installation repeated multiple times. You'll then hear a prompt talking about a restart. It is important you remove the USB drive at this point or you will start the entire process over. d. Wait about 30-60 seconds after the restart and press ctrl+win+enter again to start Narrator. You are now going through more of the typical setup. Note that this build 15002 also has a feature where you can try and use Cortana to answer some setup questions. You can try this out also. We wanted to be sure you got this urgent information that will affect all ZoomText 10.1 plus and Window-Eyes 9.5 plus users. January 17, 2017: Urgent Notification Forthcoming Startup Failures in ZoomText 10.1 and other Ai Squared Software Products Problem The digital certificate used to certify newer ZoomText and Window-Eyes software products has been compromised. As a result, our certificate will be revoked on or around January 26th, which will result in startup failures for the following Ai Squared products. Affected Ai Squared Software Products When attempting to start the following Ai Squared software products, the product will fail to launch and display a Windows error message: "A referral was returned from the server" * ZoomText Magnifier v10.1 Build numbers 10.10.8 through 10.11.6 * ZoomText Magnifier/Reader v10.1 Build numbers 10.10.8 through 10.11.6 * ZoomText Fusion v10.1 Build numbers 10.11.1 through 10.11.5 * ZoomText Keyboard v4 Build numbers 4.0.0 and 4.1.0 * Window-Eyes v9.5 Build numbers 9.5.1 and 9.5.3 When attempting to start the following Ai Squared software products, the product may launch even though the certificate has been revoked.
