Hello, Is anyone using a webmail client on a daily basis? I'm looking for something that works with screen readers. I've got to December when Php 5.6 goes away and I haveto migrate to 7, my current webmail client won't do it and the dev has moved on to other projects. Thanks. Dave.

Slightly off-topic: HTML and XML editing

Just a side question that may be off-topic for the list: a recent discussion related to my work has raised the question of which accessible editors are best for creating and modifying HTML and XML documents extensively. My suggestion would be nxml-mode under Emacs, which, given a schema, supports code completion and validation. However, I'm sure there are other options, and as I'm gathering recommendations for at least one friend/colleague and not merely choosing what to use myself, I would be interested in your suggestions. One of the challenges raised during the conversation that I had was that it can be difficult to read and edit the text with a screen reader when all of the markup is spoken; so the ability to hide the markup temporarily would be useful. Of course, a braille display (which is what I use) would help here, but even with that advantage, the markup can be quite verbose. An option considered in the discussion is to write documents in a simpler markup language such as Markdown, and then convert them, but this isn't ideal - especially if you need fine control over the HTML or XML itself.

Looking for an accessible 0 knowledge cloud provider, any ideas?

Hello Everyone. Recently, I've been thinking more and more of storing some of my data in the cloud. Nothing too confidential, but I would rather sign up with a service that has ease of use similar to dropbox and which is accessible. Has anyone tried services such as sync.com, PCloud, spider oak etc? How did you find their software? How did you find their support? Is there a chance they will take accessibility seriously? box cryptor was a waste of time. Their software is totally inaccessible and their staff don't respond when issues are reported. Surveying a wireless network

Hi all, I'm planning to upgrade my networks at the office and at home to equipment that also supports 5 ghz. I would like to measure the signal strength and network quality on various locations in the building to assess if additional access points will be needed or to see the impact of various channels and channel bandwidth settings. Does anyone know some accessible tools to do so? I would prefer something Windows based, but suggestions for Linux programs are welcome as well. My networks are built with Mikrotik gear and the new equipment will most likely be from Mikrotik aswell. So, if these devices have useful tools to asses network quality, I'm glad to hear about that as well. Best, Bram

Exchange on Virtual Server

I wonder if some kind soul can advise here please? With Microsoft Action Pack, you only get one Server 2016 Standard license, which we have installed as a Domain Controller. Action Pack also comes with Exchange Server 2016. You are advised against running Exchange 2016 on a DC, but purchasing a second server with Server 2016 for 2-3 users is overkill and expensive. It has been suggested that we install a Virtual Server on the DC to run Exchange, but the question we are having difficulty getting an answer to, is whether or not it is both possible and legal to use the same Server License on the same hardware? Has anyone got a definitive answer? George

PCI DSS validation

Hi Listers, I am looking for a PCI DSS validation and scanning service somewhat accessible. We have previously used, Trustwave to scan our networks and found out that the service is horrible, all based on flash, won't work with NVDA, won't work with JAWS, just totally inaccessible. I don't even know yet if our merchant will allow us to use different provider for PCI DSS validation. I am looking for alternatives. We are SMB so some of the enterprise providers might not be well suited or affordable for us. I apologize if this is something not sys admin related, I do have to manage it. Any suggestions or experiences are welcome. Anatoliy

LAN Speeds

Hi All >> I have a network with gigabit equipment and cabling installed across the entire infrastructure and I am using 2 win 10 pro Dell laptops to transfer files from 1 PC to the other. These laptops both have gigabit NICs installed and are wired into the network. >> The thing is, I am only getting about 10 to 15 mbps transfer speeds. Outbound SMTP from Microsoft Outlook for Mac

This is mildly interesting: I have a Postfix server configured to offer SASL on port 587. Dovecot is providing the SASL support. Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac fails to send messages out via my server, reporting that it doesn't support any of the available authentication methods. Meanwhile, Microsoft Outlook for Windows can send messages via the server without any difficulties. I've played with configuration settings, but with no luck. If I try to enable logging on Outlook for Mac, various operations (including, crucially, creating a new message) become unavailable, and it never seems to finish reading the inbox. Without logging enabled, it's able to read IMAP folders fine. This doesn't really matter - I have plenty of other ways of sending mail, even when using the Mac, but if anyone here has clues about the mystery, I would be interested. It's worth noting that Outlook 2016 for Mac works reasonably well with VoiceOver. Unfortunately, it doesn't implement equivalents to many of the keyboard shortcuts (especially for commands in the ribbon) found in the Windows version. Thus, for example, changing to a different folder is a slow process - I haven't found a faster method than scrolling through the list with cursor keys. Nevertheless, someone at Microsoft has evidently been paying attention to its accessibility, and that's a positive development.

LDAP/AD questions

Hi, Firstly apologies in advance for some of these questions. I am very new to LDAP/AD setup and administration. Background: I work for a company who have a couple of different LDAP/AD integrations, depending on the product. We are currently buying up other companies/products, and they sometimes come with their own LDAP/AD integrations. Recently the main person for LDAP knowledge in our team left to join IT, and I found my self for some reason offering to skill up on LDAP/AD. The problem: Most of the cases we get relating to LDAP, seem to result on the TSE getting on the customer's system via WebEx etc, to look at their tree, and other aspects of their configuration. There is some worry that I will not be able to do this, as there is not currently a remote desktop solution that works without the customer having to install a screen-reader. If I am wrong about this BTW then please post and let me know. For Linux boxes there is tmate etc, but I have found nothing like that for Windows. Also it is good to have a dump of the data, in case someone else takes over the case later on. So, I am looking for some useful commands that will dump the LDAP/AD tree info, so I can look at it with my screen reader/braille display. Also, I have looked in to setting up LDAP for test purposes. I want to use a Vagrant box or Docker image, but the implementations I saw in the past used puppet etc and looked fairly heacy. A lot of the tutorials I have looked at suggest to use the gui PHP admin tool. If anyone could point me to a command-line based resource for simple LDAP setup to get me started that would be great!
