Ubuntu 17.04 installation with speech

Hello, Has anything changed in the latest Ubuntu 17.04 that effects speech? I'm trying to get Ubuntu 17.04 64 bit going in a virtual machine workstation11 vm on my windows 10 host. Prior to this with 14.04 and 16.04 I waited until the drum prompt then did alt+super+s which got me speech. In 17.04 I do hear the drum prompt which I love by the way, and I do the alt+super+s and nothing no speech. Any ideas? Thanks. Dave.

removing a emulated cd rom drive from a usb stick

Hi all, We have a bunch of USB Sticks from a advertisement action we did last year. Those USB Sticks contain a cd drive which contains a pdf which is a few mb. I wonder if that drive can be removed? anyone knows special tools for that? linux or windows. Or are those often made with a second chip that emulates the cd drive with the pdf on? NVDA MSI package?

Hi all, Anyone heard of a MSI package for NVDA? I also have a second idea also to distribute nvda. I plan to write a batch script that uses robocopy to distribute a portable install of nvda and drops a preconfigured desktop icon on the public desktop. i guess thats better than dropping the folder onto the computer using a gpo. pushing 100 mb across a network with workstations with a slow connection might not be fun while the user logs in. It also might be a good idea to drop a message to the NVDA devs that more and more seem to want to distribute NVDA over many computers which is easier done with something automated. network monitoring

Hi all, Anyone using some linux software to monitor a network? I want something that prints stuff out in text on a web interfaces. at least the most stuff i would be grateful. Want to install that on a raspberry pi to see what the network devices are doing. so support for snmp and other protocols would be nice. anyone has an idea? A script to enable sound and turn up the volume

I'm looking for a script that will check to see if the sound cards are muted then if they are, unmutes them. Then if the volume is below 10% increases the volume to something a little more reasonable such as 40% or 50%. Then I want to run the script again and set everything the way it was before I got there. Do any of you have such a thing? This might be really complicated or really easy. I haven't looked yet.
